Heads of DPR and LPR began to talk about cancellation of the elections, scheduled in ‘republics’ under their laws. They would agree to carry out the local elections under Ukrainian legislation in exchange for amnesty to all the members of illegal armed groups and candidates, Joinfo.ua reports with the reference to the Russian edition of Interfax.
“A draft decision has been prepared. We and LPR do not deny the possibility of the elections date”, – said DPR representative in the subgroup on Political Affairs of the contact group in Minsk peace talks.
He noted that the existing norms of the Ukrainian legislation does not allow representatives of the militants to take part in the elections.
“Before moving the election date, it is necessary to solve two main problems with the Ukrainian legislation, to make appropriate changes, which will make this shift possible. The first step is amnesty for participants of the conflict in Donbas. In addition, the current Ukrainian legislation suggests, even with elections by majority system, nominations only from those subjects of the electoral process, which are officially registered in Ukraine. This provision bans the participation in elections for candidates from public associations operating in Donetsk and Lugansk, “- said the source.
I should be recalled that the leaders of self-proclaimed Igor Plotnitskiy (LPR) and Alexander Zakharchenko (DPR) signed decrees on illegal elections scheduled on October 18 and November 1, 2015.
