During meeting with Ukrainian community in New York, the President Poroshenko granted Order of Danylo Halytsky to the family of Mark Paslawsky who was killed in Donbas defending the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine from pro-Russian militants, Joinfo.ua reports with the reference to the AP press service.
Mark Paslawsky was born in New York in Ukrainian-American family. He graduated from the military academy in the U.S. In the 90s, he came to Ukraine, received Ukrainian citizenship and worked in the financial sector.
In April 2014 he joined the battalion “Donbas” and then joined the National Guard. On August 19, 2014, Mark Paslawsky was killed in battle near Ilovaisk (Donetsk region). He was buried in the Askold’s Grave in Kyiv on August 26, 2014.
The attendees honored the memory of the fallen warrior with a moment of silence. “For me, he is an example of true Ukrainian – patriot and Christian. He died as a hero defending Ukraine,” the President said.
It should be recalled that earlier Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko arrived in New York for participation in the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.
At the meeting the President also thanked all the Ukrainian Diaspora of the U.S. for their help and support to the Ukrainian army. “Such support is the key to our victory,” he said.
