The Spokesman of Russian President Dmitry Peskov expressed an opinion, that in order to ensure national security, the Kremlin may resort to countermeasures in the case of NATO approach to the borders of the Russian Federation, Joinfo.ua reports.

“NATO did not change and is not able to change his purpose in terms of the original objectives of its creation, and in this case, still can not forget that this is an organization, created during the time of conflict and confrontation, so NATO can not change the essence of its existence. And of course, any approach of such an organization to our borders leads to the need to take appropriate countermeasures to ensure our own security, national security,”- Peskov said.

He stressed that President Putin has repeatedly spoken about it. He also noted that Ukraine’s plans to join NATO may cause nothing but regret.

It should be recalled that yesterday Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg opened Ukraine-NATO training in Lviv region. The trainings are conducted according to the program “Partnership for Peace”. Addressing the participants of training, President Petro Poroshenko called this day a unique day in the history of Ukraine-NATO relations, for it is the first visit of the NATO Secretary General to Ukraine and the first such training held jointly with NATO. “It is another evidence of enhancement of our special partnership with NATO,” the President emphasized.
