During the Yalta European Strategy Forum Victoria Nuland, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, promised to impose new sanctions against Russia, in the event of derailment of the Minsk peace agreements, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the foreign media.

In addition, Nuland harshly criticized prosperity of bribery, fraud and behavior of oligarchs in Ukraine. She noted that it is no less a threat to the country than the presence of separatists in eastern Ukraine.

According to the Deputy Secretary of State, all countries, including Russia, must strictly follow the agreement on reconciliation signed in Minsk. Moreover, during the Yalta Conference, she addressed to the militants in the Donbas. In her appeal, she demanded to hold transparent and democratic elections in the region – according to the Ukrainian legislation and under the supervision of the OSCE.

“Only in the event of full compliance with all signed Minsk agreements, as well as the full restoration of the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state, the resumption of borders, the United States can begin to lift some sanctions. But if all the agreements continue to be cynically violated, they will be followed by new sanctions. It is necessary to apply the tactics of “carrot and sticks” towards Russia: to impose sanctions and cancel them in case of improvement,” Nuland explained. She noted that the United States still insists on imposing additional sanctions against Russia with the European Union.

All the heads of the foreign ministries, the participants the Normandy Four have the intention to meet again to discuss the issue of Ukraine in Paris on October 2 this year.

Nuland said that the Ukrainian people should not tolerate deception of local oligarchs and their bribery and tax evasion.

It should be recalled that in late September, Russian President Vladimir Putin will speak at the UN general Assembly session on the issues of the world economy, the situation in Ukraine, frequent abuse of the mechanism of sanctions and urgent issue of the Siberian situation.
