The Russian troops started building a military base and barracks for several thousand soldiers near the border with Ukraine,  Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Reuters.

According to the agency, the base will be located near the town of Valuyki in the village of Soloti of the Belgorod region, which is 35 kilometers away from the border with Ukraine. The base will occupy the land of 300 hectares.

“This week workmen were erecting a fence in a cornfield outside the village of Soloti to mark out the perimeter,” the news agency writes.

The Russian Defense Ministry is planning to deploy here nine barracks for 3,500 soldiers, artillery warehouses for weapons and ammunition with a total area of over 6,000 square meters.

In addition, in the territory of the base will be located a residential complex of more than 1,000 apartments, a swimming pool, skating rink, tennis courts and a barber shop. It is also supposed to build a large training complex, and an infirmary for 50 beds, which can be expanded in case of “massive influx of wounded”.

According to the document, the basis will be used to train soldiers on artillery and army air defense, as well as in driving tanks and armored personnel carriers. The basic design of the facility and the start of construction and installation works must be completed by April 29, 2016.

A few days ago, the press reported that Russia had began to build an air base in Syria, from which it intended to carry out air strikes against the ISIS militants to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

According to information from the U.S. Department of Defense, at the site of the future base are  already located houses for quick mounting of houses for the military. Also, near the port city of Latakia was built an air traffic control tower, which is the evidence of plans for flights abroad.
