At the training grounds in the Mykolaiv and Odessa regions today starts the active phase of the U.S.-Ukrainian exercises Sea Breeze-2015 in the northwestern part of the Black Sea, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to UNIAN.
The ships-participants from Ukraine, the USA, Romania and Turkey will conduct a series of exercises in the sea on piloting ships behind sweeps, tactical maneuvering, transfer of goods on the move at sea, submarine search, air defense, and will conduct interacting with naval aviation.
In addition, today there is being held the deployment of onshore component, which involves the units of Ukraine, the United States and Moldova. Their objectives are search and raid actions, landing of amphibious assault and air forces, protection of important civil infrastructure.
Activities of offshore and onshore components will be provided by the airplanes and helicopters of the Ukrainian Navy, the Air Force of Ukraine, the State Border Service of Ukraine and the U.S. Navy. The active phase of the exercises will last until September 11.
Earlier we reported that military exercises of NATO are still ongoing in Ukraine. The U.S. missile destroyer Donald Cook and the Ukrainian frigate Hetman Sahaidachniy came to the Odessa sea port on August 31.
It should be recalled that in Ukraine began the multinational naval exercise Sea Breeze. They will be participated by up to 2.5 thousand soldiers: up to 1 thousand people, up to nine ships, helicopters and 8 aircraft, and 50 units of wheeled equipment from Ukraine; up to 1 thousand soldiers, five ships, two submarines, and 40 units of wheeled equipment from the United States, and it will also involve 500 troops from NATO or the Partnership for Peace program.
Earlier it was reported that the United States intended to assist in the modernization of the Ukrainian frigate Hetman Sahaidachny.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed the Ministry of Defence and the state concern Ukroboronprom to develop the appropriate modernization project this year.
