NATO Embassy in Ukraine to be open very soon – Klimkin

In September, in Ukraine will be signed contracts on expansion of diplomatic status of the official representative of NATO in Ukraine. It was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.

Pavlo Klimkin said that during the visit of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to Ukraine in September, there would be concluded an agreement on expansion of the official status of the diplomatic representation of the Alliance in Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports.

“We have agreed with the Secretary General to sign the agreement on the status of NATO representation in Ukraine during this visit.  We are moving away from the concept of the NATO Liaison Office and will create, in fact, a real NATO’s Embassy in Ukraine,” Klimkin said.

He also noted that during the visit of the head of NATO to Ukraine in September, there would be signed some other documents, such as a road map for the defense-technical cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, the cooperation between the parties in the field of strategic communications aimed at the fight against the Russian propaganda.

“We also talked about the beginning of new trust funds and projects. In particular, in the areas of mine clearance and strategic communications. We also paid special attention to the promotion of the Naval Forces of Ukraine and special operations forces,” the Foreign Minister said.

However, the exact date of Stoltenberg’s visit to Ukraine is still unknown.

Earlier, Stoltenberg said that the forces of the Alliance were not idle in Europe – every day NATO helps to curb the Russian aggression. Stoltenberg stressed that although NATO military forces in Europe were not used, they were extremely useful. According to Stoltenberg, it is much more difficult to deter non-state players than state ones.
