Trilateral Contact Group agreed to cease fire from September 1

As Twitter-account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus reports, meeting of Trilateral Contact Group Ukraine-Russia-OSCE and Working groups on the Donbas ended on Wednesday, August 26 in Minsk.

At press conference following the meeting, the Special Representative of the OSCE Martin Sajdik informed on the results achieved at working groups meetings, in particular, the sub-group on humanitarian issues.

“Representatives of the particular areas of the Donetsk region have expressed their willingness to provide the ICRC access to the detainees, who, according to the Ukrainian side, wants to be held for further detention term on the territory controlled by Ukrainian authorities,” Martin Sajdik said.

He reported that the Ukrainian side will consider the possibility of moving prisoners from the occupied territories of Donbass.

Sajdik added also, that “contact group believes it is important and necessary in view of the new school year to achieve a sustainable ceasefire along the contact line as a practical step to ensure the implementation of the relevant provisions of the Minsk agreements.”

In this regard, representatives of the parties agreed to exchange information on the exact location of educational institutions located near the contact line.

“The parties will exchange data on the exact location of schools and give relevant information to the OSCE. And on September 1 we will check how this agreement (the ceasefire) is executed,” – Sajdik said.

According to MP Irina Gerashchenko, representative from Ukraine in one of the sub-groups, the Ukrainian side is cautiously optimistic after the talks of the sub-group on humanitarian issues.

It should be recalled that President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of France Francois Hollande met in Berlin on August 24 to discuss the current situation in the Donbas.
