During the press conference held by the leaders of three countries following the Normandy Format meeting, it became clear that Merkel, Poroshenko and Hollande have come to the conclusion that a trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in the Donbas should continue its work in the existing format.

“The trilateral contact group should work in its format, and this format is the right one”, – said German Chancellor.

Merkel noted that the Berlin negotiators supported “Minsk agreement” and the need for its implementation.

Chancellor Angela Merkel also said that during the talks the leaders of the three countries spoke by telephone with Russian President Putin.

“We are monitoring the military situation, together with the OSCE, which says that the separatists are not fulfilling the agreement, drones keep flying and military equipment are not withdrawn from the contact line,” – said Merkel.

She said that Russia should participate in the negotiations on the peaceful resolving of the situation in the East of Ukraine and “finally follow the course of democratic development and common sense.” “Without it will not be possible to move forward to success in these negotiations”, – said Merkel.
