Operational counterfire on positions of the militants could have helped to avoid casualties and destruction in Sartana. This opinion was expressed by the People’s Deputy Serhiy Taruta said on air of the TV program Svoboda Slova (Eng. – Freedom of Speech) on ICTV, Joinfo.ua reports.

“If the counterfire had been opened immediately, we could have avoided these tragedies. It is a conclusion number one,” he said.

People’s Deputy believes that the militants ceased conducting the attacks on the settlement of Sartana only after the Ukrainian Armed Forces returned fire at the sources of fire.

“But the decision on appropriate shooting was beeing taken long because the local leaders of the sectors are not entitled to make decisions to open fire without the approval of Kyiv,” he said.

It should be recalled that earlier as a result of shelling in Sartana there were killed 3 people. Yesterday Mariupol announced mourning for the dead.
