Almost 40 countries have already supported the idea of giving up on the use of veto in the UN where there is a need to urgently take measures to stop the massive crimes. It was announced by Alexander Giorgini, the Deputy Spokesman for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joinfo.ua reports referring to Ukrinform.
“France’s initiative on regulation of veto in cases of mass atrocities have found a very wide response in the United Nations and the international community. Nearly 40 countries have officially expressed their support in the framework of the last meeting of the United Nations and many others have shown interest, too,” the diplomat noted.
According to him, the decision may be taken next month.
“We are actively discussing this issue, in particular in connection with the 70th anniversary of the United Nations in September, as a further step in mobilizing the international community,” Giorgini said.
It should be noted that this summer the Netherlands has initiated the creation of an international tribunal under the UN Security Council in the case of the Boeing-777 crash. Later this idea was supported by Malaysia, Australia, Belgium, Britain and France. However, during the vote in the UN on the establishment of the tribunal to prosecute those responsible for the catastrophe, Russia vetoed, and, according to most international experts and politicians, by its action it actually confirmed its involvement in the collapse of the airliner. According to the diplomats of the world, Russia misuses of the veto right.
