Tourists from the EU may be required to be fingerprinted in order to obtain the Russian visas. Thus, the Russian Federation wants to respond to the EU Schengen system with similar requirements. The proposal was made by Oleg Safonov, the head of the Federal Tourism Agency, Joinfo.ua reports referring to RIA Novosti.
He called the EU’s requirements for mandatory submit of fingerprint as an ‘unfriendly step’.
“EU countries have introduced mandatory fingerprinting for obtaining visas against the Russian tourists. In response to this clearly unfriendly step it is planned to introduce a similar system,” Safonov said.
Thus, according to him, these actions will lead to an immediate drop in tourist flow. The head of the Federal Tourism Agency explained it by mainly old age of foreign tourists, for whom it will be harder to get the Russian visa.
It should be recalled that starting from June 23, the Ukrainians will be given Schengen visas only with fingerprints.
