Sikorski noted that while holding the talks on Ukraine, there should be all EU countries sitting at the negotiating table. And instead of it, there are held the talks in the Minsk format attended by Germany and France, who do not even border with Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports referring to Polskie Radio.
The politician criticized the largest members of the EU for independent policy and violation of the Treaty of Lisbon. He recalled that the Treaty of Lisbon, which entered into force six years ago, introduced the post of the EU High Representative for the Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, making the European community speak with one voice while making decisions in the field of foreign affairs.
Sikorski said that the common EU foreign policy had some success. “On the issue of Ukraine, the EU is not even at the negotiating table. Instead, Germany and France, who do not even border with Ukraine, have taken the problem of the Russian aggression and achieved only partial success,” said the ex-minister.
Sikorski believes that the reason for this division in the EU is the financial crisis that has undermined the power of the EU and has led to a situation where the decisions are made by rich countries. Sikorski calls for a return to a common EU foreign policy. “It is only united and undivided Europe that has a chance for success,” the politician summed up.
It should be recalled that talking to his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko, the newly president of Poland Andrzej Duda proposed a new format of the negotiations on the Donbas. The Polish leader proposed the idea of attracking the most powerful European states and neighboring countries.
