The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that in the occupied territories of the Donbas are about 42-43 thousand Russian soldiers and militants, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the ICTV television channel.

Such information was announced on air of the TV channel by Valentyn Fedichev, the director of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Policy of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

“The total number is about 42-43 thousand Russian separatist forces,” he said.

According to the colonel, the number of regular units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation ranges from 8,000 to 13,000 people. Also about 32-34 thousand people make illegal armed groups – the so-called LPR and DPR.

Fedichev stressed that “in the ranks of the militants fighting in the Donbas,  about 70-80% are citizens of the Russian Federation.”

At the same time, a large part of the militants from Russia form antisocial units.

“Some have from 2 to 4 years of criminal record and, of course, the Russian leadership doesn’t need their return to the territory of the Russian Federation. In fact, they bought a one-way ticket. They have a choice: either they are destroyed here, or they fall into the hands of law enforcement bodies,” Fedichev added.
