The President of Ukraine held a meeting of the NSDC Military Cabinet to agree upon further steps in the Donbas. President Poroshenko said that Ukraine should have a clear plan in the case of escalation of the conflict, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the press service of the Presidential Administration.
“We must clearly define the plan on strengthening our defense in case of escalation,” said Poroshenko.
The President stressed that fake elections the militants were planning to hold in the occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk region on October 18 and November 1 could completely ruin the Minsk agreements.
Petro Poroshenko drew attention to the need to strengthen interaction with the OSCE and ensure effective operation of the Joint Center for Control and Coordination in order to create the conditions for uninterruptible monitoring of the ceasefire and guarantee access for the OSCE inspectors to the areas of heavy weaponry deployment.
The NSDC Military Cabinet and the National Security Council are planning to discuss the humanitarian and economic issues, in particular the establishment of the subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group on the border, which will begin “the implementation of the Minsk agreements’ provision on the restoration of control over the uncontrolled part of the Ukrainian-Russian border and withdrawal of foreign troops from the Ukrainian territory.”
