In the Netherlands, a group of activists called Burgercomite EU (Citizens’ committee EU) calls on the citizens of the country to put the question of ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union to the referendum, Joinfo.ua reports referring to BBC.

Citizens may request an advisory referendum on the recently adopted laws or agreements, but in order to do this, activists have to collect 10,000 signatures until August 6. If the signatures are collected, they will be able to submit a preliminary application to hold a referendum. However, after that the activists will have to collect 300 thousand signatures in 6 weeks.

It should be recalled that the Kingdom of the Netherlands completed the ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The document was approved by the Upper House of the Dutch parliament on Tuesday, July 7.

As it is known, on June 27 last year in Brussels, Ukraine and the EU signed the economic part of the Association Agreement, which provides for the creation of a free trade zone.

The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement has partly entered into force on November 1, 2014. However, a part of its provisions relating to the creation of a free trade zone will not operate at least until the end of 2015.
