The Latvian government has started holding formal negotiations with the United States on the deployment of heavy military equipment at the Adazi military base, Joinfo.ua informs referring to Delfi.lv.

“So far, it is still unknown how many and what kind of equipment will be deployed in Latvia, as well as how much money we will need for it,” said Anete Gneze, Senior Desk Officer of the Media Relations Section of the Ministry of Defense.

“The base can accept a significant amount of military equipment, but everything will depend on the negotiation process,” said Janis Sarts, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Defence of Latvia, noting that the U.S. military equipment may appear in the country at the end of the year.

It should be noted that Latvia constantly spots military equipment belonging to the Russian Armed Forces near its borders. In particular, not long ago the Armed Forces of Latvia have registered ships belonging to the Russian Navy in the exclusive economic zone of the country not far from the state border.
