Today Russia to deny access to YouTube

Today, the Federal Service in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Coimmunications, Roskomnadzor, must register YouTube as one of banned sites according to the decision of the Moscow City Court on interim measures in relation to YouTube, the Russian media reported.

According to the Russian media, this decision was taken in accordance with a complaint of the applicant and television company ‘TNT teleset.’ According to the channel, some episodes of TV shows were stolen and posted on YouTube, Joinfo.ua reports.

Roskomnadzor argues that the request to remove materials posted has been repeatedly sent to the administration of the Internet resource, but they were never removed. Therefore, an access to YouTube in Russia for all users will be closed on July 27.

The register of banned sites exists in Russia since 2012. Initially, it included websites containing corruption of minors, methods of suicide and drug manufacture. But then, a list of materials that may enter the register of banned sites, has expanded significantly.

After Roskomnadzor puts links to the register of banned sites, operators are obliged to block access to them.
