Islamic state (ISIS) begins using chemical weapons in Iraq and Syria

A study of two independent UK-based organizations showed that the militants of the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS) used chemical weapons against the Kurds from the people’s self-defense formations and against civilians, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the television channel CNN.

The expert groups – Conflict Armament Research (CAR) and Sahan Research – investigated three events in which, according to preliminary information, were used chemical weapons. Two of the incidents were registered in the province of Hasakah in northeast Syria, the third one, involved a 120 mm mortar that landed near Kurdish positions but failed to explode, occured in northern Iraq, it said. “This is the first documented use by (ISIS) forces of projectile-delivered chemical agents against Kurdish forces and civilian targets,” Conflict Armament Research reports.
