Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia praised the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, which began to verify the legitimacy of recognition of independence of the Baltic republics by the State Council of the USSR in 1991, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the Russian media.
The ‘iron argument” given by Zhirinovsky is the fact that the Constitution of the USSR did not involve the dissolution of the state. Referendum was the only legitimate procedure for secession from the USSR. Therefore, according to him, everything that happened on December 8, 1991 was illegal. In March 1996, the State Duma canceled the ratification of the Belavezha Accords.
Vladimir Zhirinovsky believes that “if there is no ratification, it means there are no CIS and Baltic countries.”
In addition, Zhirinovsky approved Russian military build-up, using advanced weapon. “We need new missiles, laser, magnetic, natural, weather guns,” he said.
Zhirinovsky says that the Russian flag will be over Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. He claims that the entire territory of the former Soviet republics is a zone of Russia’s national interests. Everyone who is there are invaders. “There should be no Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian or Ukrainian army. There will be only one army – the Russian army,” Zhirinovsky said in his traditional style.
