President Petro Poroshenko said that he was holding the talks with the United States on provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine. Poroshenko stated it in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della sera, Joinfo.ua reports.
“We are asking the United States for this type of weapons. It is part of our right to a sovereign state. We are negotiating with them. We also cooperate with American intelligence, invite instructors from the US, UK and Canada. I know that this war can not be won militarily, but I have a duty to do everything possible to protect my country from the threat of aggression on the part of Russia,” the President said.
Petro Poroshenko also said that now the Parliament was discussing the procedure of the elections to be held in the territories controlled by pro-Russian separatists.
“Russia continues sending its troops and weapons to us as well as to finance the terrorists in the Donbas with billion dollars. (But) we are ready for a dialogue. Our Parliament is discussing a special law on local elections in these regions,” said Poroshenko.
It should be recalled that Republican Senator John McCain believes that the conflict in Ukraine needs intervention of the United States.
