On the eve of the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on Peaceful Settlement of the Situation in Donbas, which will take place today, June 23 in Minsk, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with Leonid Kuchma, the representative of Ukraine to the Trilateral Contact Group, and the Ukrainian members of the working subgroups for political, social and economic, humanitarian and security issues, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the press service of the Head of State.
President Poroshenko noted that this meeting would be special, since the day before, on 22 June, the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU Member States decided to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation due to nonfulfillment of the Minsk agreements.
The President stressed that in the last few weeks, the Ukrainian side had provided convincing evidence of its compliance with all the commitments envisaged by the Minsk Agreement.
The Head of State expressed hope that the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group will be coordinated with the meeting of the Foreign Ministers in the Normandy format, which will be held tomorrow in Paris. "The position of Ukraine, Germany and France is clearly coordinated. We insist on full and unconditional fulfillment of the Minsk agreements," the President said.
The Head of State called this meeting special also because it is the first to be attended by the OSCE Special Representative Martin Sajdik. Petro Poroshenko stressed that he had expressed gratitude to Ambassador Heidi Tagliavini for the great work and firm, professional position.
The President noted the importance of maintaining the trilateral format of consultations established by the Minsk agreements. According to the President, the working subgroups should also reflect the composition of the Trilateral Contact Group.
According to the President, The President has noted that the representatives of profile international organizations like OSCE, ICRC and ODIHR could take part both in the TCG and the working subgroups.
The President expressed his conviction that the subgroup on political issues should create necessary preconditions for organization of legitimate local elections in certain districts of Donbas. The Head of State has emphasized that pursuant to the Minsk agreements, local elections should be held solely under the Ukrainian legislation.
Speaking of the humanitarian subgroup, the President has emphasized the importance of liberation of hostages and illegally detained persons. "Today we can say that there is a zero progress in this issue. Ukrainian warriors, volunteers and civilians have to stay in terrible conditions without any fault," Petro Poroshenko said.
The President asked the security subgroup to draw attention to significant deterioration of security situation and brutal violation of the Minsk agreements by militants, particularly in Maryinka.
"Once again, we emphasize the necessity of providing access to the uncontrolled area of the Ukrainian-Russian border for the OSCE SMM," the President said noting that the provision of state-of-the-art weaponry and ammunition was held exactly through the uncontrolled area of the border. The Head of State has emphasized the need for establishing the subgroup on the border issues under the auspices of the TCG an in coordination with the OSCE.
