Kremlin promises to reciprocate extension of EU sanctions

Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the President of Russa, said that Russia would reciprocate the EU’s decision on prolongation of the anti-Russian sanctions until January 2016, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Russian media.

“The exchange of sanctions involves the principle of reciprocity – it is a cornerstone of our approach,” he said, commenting on the decision of the EU Council to extend sanctions against Russia until January 31, 2016 made today.

Peskov said the Kremlin regarded the EU sanctions as unjustified and illegal, and Moscow had never initiated sanctions.

He also said that EU sanctions oppressed not only the interests of the Russian economy, but also the interests of the taxpayers of the European states.

“Russia has never been the initiator, but in this case, as it is ongoing, we will act on the principle of reciprocity,” Peskov concluded.
