FIFA denies the Spanish press reports about probable transfer of the 2018 World Cup to another country, calling it absolutely untrue, the Russian media writes with reference to the press service of the FIFA.
Yesterday, the Spanish media reported that FIFA secretly asked Qatar to intensify the process of stadium construction to be ready to host the World Cup in 2018 instead of the Russian Federation, if necessary. According to some reports, the venue of the championship can change only in the case of aggravation of the situation in the Donbas.
At the same time, the representatives of Qatar, which is to organize the world championship in 2022, declare their readiness to hold the tournament four years earlier.
Earlier, FIFA stated that they saw no reason to deprive Russia and Qatar of the right to host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022. However, lately, the leaders of the United States, Germany and the UK have increasingly commented on the situation around FIFA. Among the reasons for possible deprivation of the right to host the 2018 World Cup in Russia is not only the corruption scandal in the organization, but also the war in Ukraine.
