President Poroshenko hopes Ukraine to become non-permanent member of UN Security Council

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expressed the hope that Ukraine would become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Petro Poroshenko made such a statement during the meeting with U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the press service of the Head of State.

"The President is hopeful that coordinated efforts would help Ukraine become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He expressed gratitude to Samantha Power for her personal contribution to the defense of Ukraine's positions," the statement reads.

Poroshenko noted the importance of the UN Security Council's support for Ukraine and the high level of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States on security issues.

"Our greatest expectations on the implementation of the Minsk agreements are related to the support of the UN Security Council," the President said.

The Head of State stressed the importance of the resumption of Ukraine's control over the Ukrainian-Russian border, resolution of the grave humanitarian situation the inhabitants of the occupied territories have faced. Poroshenko also mentioned the opening of the UN Office on the maintenance of the Minsk agreements in Kyiv, on which he agreed during the meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the press service of the Ukrainian president informs.
