The European Parliament has restricted free access to Parliament to the Russian Ambassador to the EU, the deputies of the State Duma and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, as well as suspended Parliament's engagement with the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the press service of the European Parliament.

This decision was taken by Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament, yesterday after the talks with the Russian Ambassador to the European Union.

"Following the publication of the blacklist of European politicians and officials, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, today informed the Russian Ambassador to the EU that insofar as the Russian authorities have failed to ensure transparency in their decisions, in line with international law and legal obligations, and allow the targeted individuals the right of defence and of appeal, he considers that it is now justified to take appropriate measures in response," the European Parliament reported.

As long as the blacklist is not abolished, the European Parliament will restrict free access to Parliament to the Russian ambassador to the EU and one other named diplomat; assess requests for access by Members of the Duma and the Federation Council on a case-by-case basis, and suspend Parliament's engagement with the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
