Obama doesn’t want to sign U.S. defense budget allocating money for arming Ukraine

The U.S. Congress, or rather the House of Representatives, approved the bill on the U.S. defense budget for the new fiscal year, which, among other things, provides funding of lethal weapons supply to Ukraine.

Barack Obama

The main financial document of the Pentagon in the amount of 612 billion dollars was supported by 269 congressmen (mostly Republicans), 151 legislators (mostly Democrats) voted negatively. Thus, the U.S. Congress approved the bill, but President Barack Obama opposes it, Joinfo.ua reports referring to Voice of America.

The bill retains expenses for U.S. defense with expenditures of 2011, increasing funding of international military operations.

Lawmakers support the provision of 38 billion dollars more for the so-called military fund offered by the White House. The document also refers to the continuation of the Guantanamo detention facility, which is opposed by the Obama administration. In addition, $ 200 million is expected to help Ukraine, including in the form of lethal weapons. Barack Obama is opposed to this.

Administration of the President of the United States has announced its intention to veto this bill when it is sent to the head of state for signature.

The Senate is working on its own version of the defense budget, which is very similar to the bill of the House of Representatives and also amounts to 612 billion dollars.
