UN to open office in Ukraine to monitor compliance with Minsk agreements

The United Nations will open an office in Ukraine in support of the Minsk agreement on resolving the situation in the east of Ukraine. It was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during his visit to 169th Training Center (known as "Desna") of Ukrainian Ground Forces in the Chernihiv region.

According to Poroshenko, during the visit of the UN Secretary-General to Ukraine, it was agreed to create the office of UN support, which will help to ensure the efficient implementation of the Minsk agreements, reports Joinfo.ua with reference to the press service of the Head of State.

Poroshenko said that the United Nations would coordinate with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The President also stressed that he would take the issue of violations of the Minsk agreement by the militants and the responsibility for it to the international community. Poroshenko noted that on May 14, he would go to Aachen (Germany) and meet with the leaders of Germany and France to discuss violations of the Minsk agreements by separatists, in particular on withdrawal of heavy weapons.
