NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the alliance would increase the number of members of the response forces from 13,000 to 30,000 people. It is stated on the official website of the military-political bloc, Joinfo.ua reports.
Stoltenberg recalled the formation of an additional five thousand group in Europe. "We faced a dramatically changed security environment in Europe," said the Secretary General, adding that Russia violated international security rules by committing "aggression against Ukraine."
NATO leaders adopted the decision to create new the rapid reaction forces in September 2014 at the summit in Wales. In early February 2015 in Brussels gathered defense ministers, who represented the NATO countries, to create new units of rapid reaction forces, and in March there have been held the exercises of the naval rapid reaction forces, attended by seven NATO member countries in the Black Sea.
