Vladimir Putin neither to solve Donbas problem nor continue war

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul says that Putin just does not want to solve the problem with the Donbas.

In an interview with Hromadske TV, Michael McFaul said that the problem that has been started by the Russian President Vladimir Putin can not be solved with him. Because he does not want to solve it, Joinfo.ua reports.

"You know the thing is that this problem can not be solved. But it is just my opinion. I'm just a professor at Stanford University. It's impossible to find a way to resolve this conflict directly with Putin. For example, the Americans are like engineers: if there is a problem, they have to solve it. And it's the case when the conflict can not be solved. I do not think he will start a full-fledged war. He doesn't need it either. Because for Putin, it is beneficial not to have a solution – neither war nor peace, but something in the middle.

I just do not see any options for resolving this issue with Putin. While he is in power – the conflict can not be solved. Because if he finds a solution – the militants will have problems.

But Putin's main goal is destabilization of Ukraine. Putin wants to show the world how bad Ukrainian government is and how it has led to the crisis. To create a crisis in Ukraine – that's the real goal of Putin," said the diplomat.
