The Russian Foreign Ministry once again expressed the need for federalization of Ukraine. According to Sergey Lavrov, the head of the department, Ukraine has to abandon unitarity and Ukrainianization, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Russian media.
"Ukraine can exist only as a state that recognizes the diversity of its constituent regions and constituent cultures," he said in an interview with the Russian radio station.
Lavrov said that Ukraine needs to "be kept united and friendly" with respect to both Russia and Europe.
"And in order to do that, they must abandon the obstinacy with regard to compulsory preservation of Ukraine's unitarity, which is called for again by the President (Petro) Poroshenko, and ministers of the Ukrainian government. To abandon what they call Ukrainization," said Lavrov.
He added that it was important "to preserve Ukraine neutral, primarily, in military and political sense." "Because its collapse means only one thing: right away, the West, NATO will attempt to make Ukraine anti-Russian, we all understand this very well," said Lavrov.
