President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon discussed the execution state of the Minsk agreements and international efforts for restoration of peace in the Donbas, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the press service of the head of state.
The Secretary General of the United Nations praised the role of the President of Ukraine in ensuring the peace process in the Donbas, Ukraine's devotion to the Minsk agreements, and expressed his concern about violations of the ceasefire and other items of these documents.
The President of Ukraine said that Ukraine made every effort to send humanitarian cargoes to the residents of the Donbas and solve urgent humanitarian problems in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
However, as Poroshenko noted, militants block the delivery of humanitarian convoys with Ukrainian and international assistance. Ban Ki-moon praised the actions of the Ukrainian authorities aimed at resolving the humanitarian situation. He also expressed his gratitude to the people of Ukraine for assistance to internally displaced persons.
Petro Poroshenko called on the UN Secretary General to take measures to release Nadiya Savchenko, whose mother and lawyers are in New York at the moment. The President also noted that all the hostages in the Donbas should be liberated.
The head of state and the UN Secretary General also agreed to implement the next steps for the possible deployment of peacekeeping contingent in the Donbas under the auspices of the UN.
