During the spring session the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will discuss the political background and security situation in Ukraine with its consequences, Joinfo.ua reports.
On April 22, PACE intends to review the sanctions against the official delegation of the Russian Federation, imposed due to the annexation of Crimea and Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine.
According to the press service of the Assembly, the main topics of the session, which will be held in Strasbourg on April 20-24, will include a discussion of mass surveillance, humanitarian consequences of the activities of the Islamic State and others.
It should be noted that Vyacheslav Nikonov, the Chairman of the Committee on Education of Russia, offered to withdraw the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Nikonov believes that the funds, PACE is currently receiving from the Russian budget, should be sent to another parliamentary work.
It should be recalled that on January 2, PACE expanded sanctions against Russia and deprived the Russian delegation of the right to vote in the Assembly. Russia also has no right to work in the governing bodies of the Assembly and to observe the elections.
