U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine says what U.S. will do if Russia derails Minsk agreements

U.S. authorities will increase economic pressure on Russia if the latter fails to comply with the agreement signed in Minsk.

U.S. authorities will increase the level of economic pressure on the Russian Federation, in the event of derailment of the Minsk arrangements, says U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt, Joinfo.ua reports.

"If Russia fails to honor the obligations it assumed by signing the Minsk accords, the U.S. will increase the price of Russia's failings," said Pyatt today. He noted that the U.S. and the European Union were doing everything possible to stop Russian aggression in Ukraine and to make all the conditions of the Minsk Agreement fulfilled.

Pyatt also noted that the war in the Donbas should not be the cause or justification for the termination of economic reforms in Ukraine. "Luhansk and Donetsk militants are occupying just under 3 percent of Ukraine's territory, this small area should not thwart Ukraine's further movement towards reforms and progress," said the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.

Recently, Geoffrey Pyatt noted that Russia had begun a new phase of aggression in Ukraine.
