Pentagon and U.S. Department of State acclaim Canada joining training of National Guard of Ukraine

U.S. Department of Defense has approved Canada joining military training of Ukrainian servicemen.

The United States Department of Defense announced that Canada joined the initiative of the U.S. Department of State on preparation of the National Guard of Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the official website of the U.S. Department of State.

Speaking to reporters, Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren endorsed the actions of Canada for its contribution and for joining the training mission of the National Guard of Ukraine.

"We welcome our close friend and strong ally Canada's contributions to the Ukrainian National Guard training program," he said, adding that Canada has provided non-lethal military assistance to Ukraine throughout the ongoing crisis.

"Earlier this year Canada joined the United States-Ukraine joint commission. We look forward to continuing our long-standing defense relationship while undertaking this important endeavor," said Warren.

On March 20, the Ministry of Defense announced that about 290 American troops from the 173rd Airborne Brigade from the Italian city of Vicenza would train Ukrainian servicemen in Yavoriv near the Polish border.
