Russian State Duma criticizes PACE and urges Russia to withdraw it

The Russian State Duma is considering Russia's exit from the PACE. Vyacheslav Nikonov, Chairman of the Committee on Education of Russia, offers to withdraw from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Russian media.

Nikonov believes that the funds PACE is currently receiving from the Russian budget should be sent to another parliamentary work.

"PACE today is one of the most ridiculous organizations, whose existence is not even suspected in Strasbourg – where it is located. I am sure that 98% of Europeans have not even heard about it. It is a gathering of parliamentarians from the national parliaments of European countries that decide absolutely nothing, but always raise anti-Russian howl. I do not know what we are still doing there," said Nikonov.

It should be recalled that on January 28, PACE expanded sanctions against Russia and deprived the Russian delegation of the right to vote in the Assembly. Russia also has no right to work in the governing bodies of the Assembly and to observe the elections.
