Lukashenko to Putin: ‘Belarus will never be a north-western province of Russia!’

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that his country would never be some north-western region of Russia, but remain independent.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Alexander Lukashenko says that, although so far President Putin has not mentioned the accession of Belarus into the Russian Federation, but just in case, he willreply that Belarus will never be a part of the Russian Federation, Joinfo.ua reports.

"We will not be some northwestern province just like we will never get into conflicts with Russia. We have been and we are a sovereign, independent state. And so we will remain," said Alexander Lukashenko.

According to President of Belarus, the Russian side has never raised an issue that the country should be a part of Russia. There were hints, but Lukashenko "rigidly" responded to them.

Alexander Lukashenko says that Russian President Vladimir Putin "will not seek to restore the empire." The Russian President has no desire to "seize something," as Putin is a modern man and understands that in modern world it is dangerous, said Lukashenko.
