Local elections in France appeared to be an unpleasant surprise for the pro-Russian parties. So far, the party of ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy wins. The far-right National Front Party headed by Marine Le Pen has not received the majority of votes in any of the departments, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the French newspaper of Le Nouvel Observateur.
Thus, the Union for a Popular Movement headed by Nicolas Sarkozy was the first in 66 departments (against 41 now), the pro-presidential Socialist party of Francois Hollande won in 30 departments (compared to 61 now).
These results are relevant as of 1:15 am Kyiv time.
The Radicals of Marine Le Pen lost in all regions, despite the fact that in some counties the National Front support was supported by 40%.
"I don't think there will be any National Front departments," deputy party leader Florian Philippot said on television on Sunday evening.
"However, we will have tens of our representatives. Our average result is about 40% and it is an unprecedented result for the National Front," he said.
According to Sarkozy, "the rotation of power has begun, and this process can not be stopped."
It should be noted that the first round of local elections in France ended up in the victory of the party headed by ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy.
Before the elections, Marine Le Pen promised she would destroy the European Union, if she came to power.
