Laina Farhat-Holzman, an author of the article in the American news agency Monterey Herald, says that Russian values and politics increasingly resemble those of the Islamists. Putin's friendly relations with the dictators of Chechnya, Iran, and Syria cause confusion of the author, since in any case it will negatively affect Russia, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Monterey Herald.
However, the author notes that Putin has another problem: he is hanging on to power not to avoid jail. According to her, his temporary alliance with the Islamists, who are waging a war with the modern world, can quickly and suddenly change its direction.
"Russia deserves better than to march into the past arm in arm with Islamists and the Russian Orthodox Church. And this is a country with enormous talent just waiting to be unleashed again. We have seen renaissances there before, and I look forward to seeing this happen again," said Farhat-Holzman.
Also, according to her, it seems that Putin is afraid to recognize women as equals the most.
"Putin's war against woman (the Pussy Riot flogging) may be a mistake. As Russian women see their sons coming home in body bags from the undeclared Ukrainian war, he will hear from them. They are a force to be reckoned with," says the author.
