President Poroshenko to substitute Russian gas with supplies from Turkmenistan

President Poroshenko to substitute Russian gas with supplies from Turkmenistan

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rasid Meredow, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the press service of the head of state.

The President noted that relations between Ukraine and Turkmenistan were at a high level. Rasid Meredow stressed that Ukraine was a reliable partner for Turkmenistan, and his country intended to develop further economic and trade cooperation. He mentioned positive experience of the Ukrainian companies in various sectors of the Turkmen economy, particularly in the oil and gas sector, implementation of major infrastructure projects and the like.

Ukrainian President drew attention to the fact that Ukraine had a powerful power engineering industry, and that the Ukrainian state-owned enterprises were interested in supplying turbines and compressor stations to Turkmenistan.

President specially noted the interest in diversification of gas supplies, including at the expense of the Turkmen natural resource. "Ukraine is ready and interested in resumption of the Turkmen gas supplies, as an alternative source," he said.

The parties also discussed the possibility of restoring air links between the two countries and the development of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. Poroshenko also invited the Turkmen investors to Ukraine.

On behalf of President of Turkmenistan, Minister Meredow invited President of Ukraine to visit his country. In turn, Poroshenko invited his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to visit Ukraine.
