In his interview for Channel 5, Leonid Kravchuk said that conversation between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin should to be held exclusively in private and only from the position of the Ukrainian force, Joinfo.ua reports.
Leonid Kravchuk believes that Putin can be made to enter into direct negotiations with Ukraine. But this meeting needs to be held face to face.
"It is very difficult situation – to have a dialogue with Russia. I conducted a dialogue with Yeltsin and felt how difficult it was to debate, to defend your own interests. With Putin it is even more difficult. Today, we have gone so far that now only pressure, principled position and strength, which should be increased in Ukraine and what President Poroshenko actually does, one can make Putin sit down to talk with Ukraine. And it is simply impossible to solve the Ukrainian question without talks between Putin and Poroshenko. So there should be suggested a public meeting for Putin and asked the questions Ukraine wants and can ask. And say – here's what we can do, and that is off the table. We can all die. But will not give up Ukraine. Let the world see. Ukraine should say publicly what it is not satisfied with," said Kravchuk.
