EU forgets about Crimea: sanctions against Russia to be lifted after implementation of Minsk Agreement

European sanctions against Russia were exclusively linked to the implementation of the Minsk Agreement, said the EU leaders at the yesterday's summit, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Russian media.

European Council President Donald Tusk announced the decision to maintain the sanctions against Russia until the full implementation of the Minsk Agreement, which must happen by the end of 2015.

According to Tusk, the decision of the summit "will go into building very strong links between full implementation of Minsk and sanctions that are already in place being in place until full implementation of Minsk."

The summit also ordered the head of European diplomacy Federica Mogherini to prepare a plan to counter "misinformation" on the part of Russia regarding coverage of the situation in Ukraine by June.

It should be noted that the terms of restrictive measures against energy, financial, and defense sectors of the Russian economy expire at the end of July 2015.

Although, the problem of Crimea was not mentioned in the context of the sanctions. The European officials only reminded that they recognized the peninsula as a part of Ukraine.

At the same time, the U.S. Department of State stated that the maneuvers of the Russian troops in Crimea excluded diplomatic solution to the conflict more and more.
