Russian Foreign Ministry refuses to take part in the meeting of the UN Security Council on the Crimean issue, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Russian media.
"We believe that this event is counterproductive and provocative. The Russian delegation will not take part in it," reads the statement of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations.
Vitaly Churkin, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN said that Moscow was totally against discussing Crimea in the Security Council.
At a meeting of the Security Council, which will take place today at 9:00 p.m. Moscow time, there will appear Mustafa Dzhemilev, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the former leader of the Crimean Tatars, and Andrey Zubarev, a representative of the Crimean Field Mission on Human Rights.
According to Yuriy Sergeyev, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Lithuania was the initiator of the meeting of the UN Security Council regarding Crimea.
