As it was previously reported, 100 German citizens are fighting against Ukraine on the side of the Donbas rebels. The Bundestag has reacted to this information and is already establishing the identities of the perpetrators, Joinfo.ua reports referring to Die Welt.
Wolfgang Bosboom, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Domestic Policy, advanced the initiative to punish those citizens of Germany. He said about the need to identify people returning from the Donbas, who are "a threat to national security" of Germany.
According to him, it is also necessary to clarify "whether it is possible to apply to such persons the same legal consequences as to the members of terrorist organizations, and whether it is possible to prove the nature of the crime."
However, Konstantin von Notz, Deputy Chairman of the Greens in the Bundestag, said about complexity of punishment of the German citizens fighting in the Donbas.
"If there are specific allegations, the judiciary should consider these cases," he said.
Notz believes that it is unfairly to deprive such persons of German citizenship.
"Not everyone who travels to Russia or Ukraine, can now be placed under general suspicion," said Notz.
Earlier, the newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported that German citizens, many of whom served in the Bundeswehr, are fighting in Donbas in the ranks of separatists.
