Foreign Ministry of Ukraine officially asks UN to bring peacekeepers to Donbas

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry officially asked the UN to bring the peacekeepers in the Donbas, said Yevhen Perebyinis, Director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Associated Press.

He noted that the size and composition of the mission staff would be determined after consultations with the European Union.

According to Perebyinis, earlier the request was sent to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The next message will be sent after the approval by the Verkhovna Rada.

The decision to send peacekeepers to the Donbas will be accepted if all five permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Russia, which has the right of veto and supports the separatists in the Donbas, voted affirmatively.

It should be recalled that the UN peacekeepers can appear in Ukraine only in six months.
