U.S. President Barack Obama believes that today's provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine can only exacerbate the conflict. It was stated yesterday by White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

"First of all, the supply of lethal weapons in Ukraine may spark greater bloodshed, and we try to avoid it," Earnest said.

According to him, the U.S. leader believes that the armed conflict in Ukraine can not be solved by military means. "It would be unreasonable if the U.S. supplied so many arms to the Ukrainian army so that it could overcome the military operation supported by Russia," he said.

White House spokesman said that "the supply of arms (to Ukraine – Ed.) can lead to an escalation of the conflict." According to the Presidential Administration, strengthening of the Ukrainian army can cause a reaction from Russia and militants supported by the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that the European Union, in particular, German Chancellor Angela Merkel takes up a similar position on the issue of weapons supply to Ukraine.

Yesterday the media reported that Merkel dissuaded Obama to deliver lethal weapons to Ukraine.
