Spain confirmed to Moscow that it had tangible economic loss as a result of EU sanctions against Russia and counter-sanctions from Russia, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo.

March 10, at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov Minister Garcia-Margallo assured that Russia should not expect the introduction of new EU sanctions, as the east of Ukraine reported good news regarding compliance with the truce.

"Sanctions are of no benefit to anyone," he stated, adding that they caused great harm to the economy of Spain, in particular, the agricultural sector and tourism business, but despite this, the overall economy of the country in 2014 had increased by 1.4%.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain said: "Sanctions are not an end in itself but a tool to invite the parties to establish a dialogue and find a peaceful solution."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov liked the refusal of sanctions by Garcia-Margallo, and praised Spain for the fact that it adhered to the middle way and did not insist on "continuation of sanctions pressure on Russia."
