The EU will provide Ukraine with financial assistance. The EP Foreign Affairs Committee supported the idea of providing Kyiv with macro-financial assistance of $ 1.8 billion euros, Joinfo.ua reports.
"The Foreign Affairs Committee calls on the Committee on International Trade, as the responsible one, to offer the Parliament to approve its position in support for the proposal of the European Commission in the first reading," reads the resolution prepared by the deputy Jacek Saryusz-Wolski.
Most of the members of the Committee supported this document in Strasbourg on March 9.
A concise explanatory memorandum stresses that Ukraine is not a poor country, but today it is in difficult conditions due to the prolonged absence of structural reforms, poor governance and economic and financial losses owing to the war, foreign aggression and occupation.
The new aid program proposed by the European Commission on January 8 will be the third one for Ukraine.
In the first two programs Ukraine has already received 1.36 billion euros out of 1.61.
The rest of the assistance amounting to 250 million euros will be paid in the near future.
