Spain to postpone sanctions against Russia

Foreign Minister of Spain proposes to postpone new sanctions against Russia.

Spanish Foreign Minister José García-Margallo y Marfil proposed to postpone the introduction of new sanctions against Russia and "give peaceful dialogue a chance." He stated it in Riga before the informal meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers, TeleCinco reports.

"Some countries speak for keeping them (sanctions – Ed.) in force, others want to strengthen them, someone speak for their weakening," Margallo said.

"Spain's position is that the Minsk agreement is being implemented and now is not the time to strengthen sanctions," the Minister said.

He noted that "it is necessary to give peaceful dialogue a chance, since it is possible to resolve the crisis in Ukraine only by political means not military ones."

It should be recalled that EU High Representative for Foreign Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said that the EU would not lift sanctions against Russia until complete ceasefire.
