President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko spoke for bringing the peacekeeping forces under the auspices of the European Union to the country. He said this in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday, February 27. He also said that the separatists did not observe the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, during speech on February 27, Angela Merkel has repeatedly stated the need to solve the Ukrainian conflict by diplomatic rather than military means. In particular, she stressed that they were working hard to make the current ceasefire remain in Ukraine for a long time. At the same time, according to Merkel, the EU does not exclude the introduction of new sanctions if the situation worsens.

Merkel also stated she was talking about security in Europe with the participation of Russia, not against Russia. "However, if we fail to achieve it, we will just stand up for our principles," the Chancellor said. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the German government Steffen Seibert noted that Germany did not discuss military aid to Kyiv.
